TEXAS—DALLAS PRESENTATION

Text Box: LEARNING CIRCLES ETHNOGRAPHY AND FOLK DICTIONARY
ARTS DEPARTMENT

Hello Romanian Class,

This is Ms. Davenport’s sixth grade class from Dallas, Texas. We have 17 kids in our class, six girls and 11 boys. Your project was entertaining to us all. Thank you for doing this with us. We enjoyed your detailed email on your school and community. When we were informed about the learning circle we were all very excited. The learning circle has given us many opportunities to learn not only about Constanta, Romania but other places around it.

In our school we have grades consisting of pre-kindergarten to eighth grade. In all of the grades we have about five hundred students attending our school. We go to school from 8:00 to 3:30. We wear uniforms everyday to school. In sixth grade at our school we take a foreign language (German, Spanish or French) Social Studies, Math, Literature, Language Arts, and Science. We also have enrichments: Health, Music, Art, and Physical Education that we do either once or twice a week. In the morning, we go to chapel everyday for 15 minutes. On Fridays though, we go to a longer chapel (45 minutes) where we have communion.

Other fun things we get to do in our school year is spirit week. This is a week where each day has a theme that we dress up as. We also have games day. We get to take a day off from school and play relays races, board games and field games. Games day is an award for us after we take serious tests called the ERB to see how well teachers are teaching in their subjects, and to see how we perform on tests individually.

We are very thankful for this wonderful opportunity of the learning circle. We hope to be able to do the learning circle again, since we had such great experience the first time from being able to do it with you.

                                  Sincerely,

                                  Ms. Davenport’s 6th grade class
