Folk Music
Folk music abounds in the United States. Some examples would be “Amazing Grace,” “Dixie”, “America the Beautiful,” and “If I Had a Hammer.” Texas has its own folk music, too: “The Yellow Rose of Texas” and “Home on the Range,” to name two. Probably the most well-known song is “Yankee Doodle.” We have attached an audio file of it and hope you can listen.

Regional Folk Costumes |

This is a picture of a cowboy. Cowboys are native to Texas and other western states in America. Cowboys usually wore 10-gallon hats like the cowboy above and carried pistols. They were also known for their ruthlessness. |

This is a picture of a cowgirl. Cowgirls were very much like cowboys but they were not known for their ruthlessness. The cowgirls only helped on the ranch but never rounded up cattle. Neither did they carry pistols. |
